Keep the Memories, Lose the Pain
What is Accelerated Resolution Therapy?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy reprograms how the brain stores traumatic memories. This approach provides effective and lasting relief from these strong physical and emotional reactions associated with high levels or stress or extreme mood fluctuation in as little as 1-5 sessions.
The treatment program incorporates visualization techniques that are enhanced by the use of eye movements, similar to restorative eye movement and rapid eye movement of sleep (REM). The eye movements help replace negative images with more positive images and emotions. ART can be effective on adolescents, young adults, and adults.

Understanding More About
Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Addressing Trauma with Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is designed to help people process traumatic memories quickly and with less emotional pain. It’s often used to treat PTSD, anxiety, depression, and grief, but it can also support individuals dealing with phobias or troubling images they can’t seem to shake.
ART is a short-term therapy that usually takes only a handful of sessions. It combines elements of traditional talk therapy with techniques like eye movements and imagery rescripting. The goal is to help your brain reprocess how it stores difficult memories, so they no longer feel overwhelming when recalled.
How Does ART Actually Work?
During an ART session, I guide you through a series of eye movements while you think about a specific memory or feeling. These movements are similar to what happens during REM sleep, which is when your brain naturally processes events from the day.
Rather than spending a lot of time retelling the story, you focus on how the memory feels, and then start to shift the way it’s stored. Many people experience a sense of emotional relief after just one session, especially when working through trauma. You stay in control the entire time, and the process doesn’t require you to talk in detail about what happened unless you want to.
What Makes ART Different From Other Therapies?
What sets ART apart is its speed and focus. Traditional therapy often takes months or even years to get to the root of trauma. ART aims to reduce the emotional charge around a memory in as few as one to five sessions. Instead of digging endlessly into the past, ART helps people release what’s stuck and replace it with something more peaceful.
It’s also different because of how gentle it is. You don’t need to rehash painful details over and over. That’s a big relief for many clients who are afraid of feeling retraumatized.
Who Can Benefit From ART?
ART can help anyone who feels trapped by painful memories or emotional triggers. It’s especially helpful for people dealing with post-traumatic stress, whether that trauma comes from a single event or a pattern of experiences. Survivors of abuse, individuals with anxiety, or even people struggling with a sudden loss often find ART effective. It’s an especially effective technique for teens and young adults.
Even if you’ve tried other therapies without much success, ART might offer a fresh approach. Its focus on physical sensations, memory reconnection, and fast relief makes it a great option for people who are emotionally exhausted.
Why Choose to Work with a Denver ART Therapist?
For people who want relief without spending years in therapy, ART offers something unique. It’s structured, it’s efficient, and it focuses on results. You don’t have to relive the worst moments of your life. You just have to be willing to look at them differently. With the right therapist guiding you, it’s possible to walk out of a session feeling lighter, clearer, and more in control than you’ve felt in years.
